Meltwater release of heavy metals from glacier to ocean in a changing Arctic (METALLICA)

Matthias is a professor of marine geology and currently the Head of Department at the Department of Geosciences at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His scientific career has focused on the investigation of sedimentary processes on glaciated continental margins in the Arctic and Antarctica, including studies from the innermost parts of fjords to the deep sea. He has about 25 years of experience studying fjords in northern Norway, Svalbard, East Greenland and the Antarctic Peninsula, focusing on reconstructing ice-sheet/glacier dynamics, ice rafting and palaeo-oceanography, slope stability and pockmarks, using swath bathymetry, high-resolution seismics and multi-proxy analyses of sediment cores.
