Conference on Palaeogenomics (ICP2026) a big success

The first International Conference on Palaeogenomics (ICP2026) brought together the international palaeogenomics community for five inspiring days in Stockholm in the last week of June in 2026. The programme included a welcome reception at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, a conference dinner at Stockholm City Hall, and an intensive series of talks and poster presentations at Stockholm University’s Aula Magna.
The MIRevolution team was strongly represented at the conference. Fourteen researchers from UiT’s ArcEcoGen centre travelled from Tromsø, and several PhD candidates from our group presented their latest research.
A particular highlight was the strong presence of ancient RNA research, with four presentations dedicated to this rapidly developing field. Three of these featured work involving MIRevolution researchers and collaborators, including Marc Friedländer, Vanessa Paynter and Emilio Mármol Sánchez. Vanessa Paynter’s research is funded through the MIRevolution project by the Trond Mohn Research Foundation.
Beyond the scientific programme, the conference provided many opportunities for stimulating discussions with colleagues and potential new collaborators. The ideas and insights gained in Stockholm will also contribute to the development of our major research proposal planned for November.
