"When do you feel engaged in teaching? What characterizes the absence of engagement? And which roles do media play?"
These are some of the questions we explore in the project "RESONANCE – Resonance-Creating Practices in Higher Education", which I am part of.
The RESONANS project aims to develop empirical knowledge about what fosters joy, engagement, and meaningful connections in teaching and learning in higher education – in other words, what creates resonance.
Drawing on the sociological concept of resonance developed by German sociologist Hartmut Rosa, the project explores how resonance emerges in educational settings, what enables or inhibits it, and how it can be experienced by both students and university teachers.
Based on empirical insights from across academic disciplines and faculties, we aim to develop a practical toolkit of resonance-generating practices to support university teachers in creating more engaging, meaningful, and resonant spaces for teaching and learning.
The toolkit will be complemented by Resonanspodden, a podcast that brings together insights, experiences, and practical perspectives on fostering resonance in higher education. Through conversations with students, educators, and researchers, the podcast will explore how resonance can be recognised, experienced, and cultivated in everyday educational practice.
