NOR-BRA - cooperation in research-based education in geosciences between Norway and Brazil

The project establishes formal cooperation in research-based education in geosciences between UiT The Arctic University of Norway and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Other Brazilian partner universities are the University of São Paulo (USP) and Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).

The project is based on broad involvement of students into research activities of their supervisors and provides room for development of skills necessary for successful completion of various fieldwork- or laboratory work-based projects in geology.

Activities planned in the project involve organization of short courses and workshops at the partner universities and common supervision of PhD and master students during their fieldwork in the Dom Feliciano Belt in SE Brazil, as well as during their laboratory work.

A six-month scholarship is planned for two students from UFRGS at the Department of Geosciences of UiT. Four master students and three PhD students will benefit from the project. It will allow them to collect both field and laboratory data for their theses.

Moreover, master and PhD students at UiT and UFRGS will benefit from short courses and workshops organized by the partner universities.
