Arctic Discourses
Arctic literature encompasses a sizeable body of material representing various genres, ways of writing and forms of presentation – both fictional and documentary – in different national languages. This textual material is and has been a significant factor in the constitution of terms relating to the nature and people in “the northern world”. The charting, description and analysis of literary representations of the Arctic in various depictions, as well as from different historical eras, is the goal of the “Arctic Discourses” project. Travel representations and expedition reports form a central part of the material, as well as Arctic novels and hunting accounts, amongst other texts.
