Save The Date: EISCAT Symposium 2024

Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to announce that the EISCAT Symposium 2024 will occur the week of July 29 to August 2 in Tromsø, Norway. The 48th Annual European Meeting on Atmospheric Studies by Optical Methods will be held simultaneously.

Venue:
UiT The Arctic University of Norway campus, Tromsø, Norway

Dates:
July 29 - August 2, 2024

Preliminary Session List:
- EISCAT 3D, and complementing instrumentation
- MIT Coupling
- Novel Radar and Signal Processing Techniques
- Imager/Aurora Studies
- Satellite, Rocket, and Multi-Instrument Studies
- D-region and Mesospheric Phenomena
- Meteors and Space Debris
- Machine Learning in Space and Atmospheric Physics
- Modelling of Auroral/Magnetospheric Processes
- Active Ionospheric Experiments (Heating, etc.)
- Space Weather
- Effects of Satellites on Incoherent Scatter Radar Measurements

Accommodations:
Due to the demand for hotels in Tromsø during the summer months, it is recommended to book your hotel/accommodations as soon as possible.

More details about registration and abstract submission will be released in the future.

2024 is an important year for the incoherent scatter community as it will be the first year of EISCAT 3D operations. We hope to see initial results from the system presented at the Symposium!

The registration fee is planned to include coffee breaks, lunches, a visit to the EISCAT 3D Skibotn site, conference style presentations, and a banquet dinner.

We look forward to seeing you in Tromsø for the Symposium!

EISCAT Peer Review Time

https://eiscat.se/news/eiscat-peer-reviewed-program-experiments-3/

Deadline: 1 November, 2022.

Twice a year the EISCAT association announces an open call for any scientist from non-EISCAT member countries to apply for time to use the EISCAT radars. This is a separate pot of time to the national Norwegian allocated time but can be applied for by Norwegian scientists also.  This a great opportunity for collaborators in non-EISCAT countries to submit a proposal to work with the radars. Please do spread the word and either consider applying yourself, or encourage a collaborator to do so.

All applications are assessed by the EISCAT Science Advisory Committee (SAC)

Submission for a given deadline implies that the observations are requested to be initially scheduled during the 6 month period which starts in 1 or 2 months after the respective deadline. Please, note that in general EISCAT experiments for a given month are scheduled by the 10th of the preceding month.

This means that time requested would most likely be for the current radar systems, not EISCAT 3D.

Kind regards,

Lisa
