In this presentation, I intend to probe into the political implications that the 'choice' of a specific cultural memory has for the present and future while putting the accent on the necessary link between cultural memory studies and the analysis of the cultural industry. From this theoretical perspective, and grounded on concepts such as 'exemplary memory', what I present is a study of the political-memory activities of the 'Memorial' Society from an approach to memory focused on giving voice to the victims of political repression, versus the hegemonic memory in present-day Russia, structured around the 'interpretive frame of war'.
