Black History Week UiT 2025 - Seminar about "othering" by Professor Holger Pötzsch, UiT

Join us for an insightful seminar on the concept of 'othering'—a powerful framework that explores the dynamics of exclusion and marginalization.

Time: Monday 24 February 12.15-2.00 pm.

Room: Universitetsbiblioteket, Auditorium 132

Othering is one of the most destructive discursive operations to justify violence and (increasingly perpetual) wars. In the seminar, we will explore instances of othering and look into a few tools we can use to better understand and work against these destructive practices.
The seminar is based on the MA-course HIF-3111: Manufacturing Monsters that is run at the Dept. of Language and Culture at the HSL-faculty, UiT, every spring term. The course is highly interdisciplinary and open to all students.
Holger Pötzsch is professor in Media and Documentation Studies at UiT. He is part of the research groups ENCODE and CRAFT.

The organizers: The student parliament in cooperation with UiT.
