Ever felt that your research life could be a comic strip? The endless revisions, the supervisor meetings, the reviewer who really wanted a different paper?
If that sounds familiar, this webinar is for you. COMICA is delighted to welcome Jorge Cham, creator of the internationally popular PHD Comics, for an afternoon on how humour and comics can help us navigate the challenges of academic life 😊
When? Friday 16.10.2026, 14:15–15:45 (CEST)
Where? Online (Microsoft Teams), join here
The webinar opens with a short introduction by Giovanna Bertella, leader of COMICA.
Next, our guest Jorge Cham will share insights into his work and the experiences behind his comics. For more than two decades, PHD Comics has given researchers around the world a way to laugh at the absurd sides of academia. Jorge will talk about where the stories come from and what humour can do for people working in and around universities.
The conversation will be chaired by Ian Lamond, COMICA member.
Throughout the session, Kristel Peijnenborg (✏ Visueeltjes) will be our visual reporter, drawing the discussion as it unfolds.
Who is it for?
PhD candidates, early-career researchers, supervisors, and anyone who has ever needed a good laugh about academic life. Everyone is welcome, both inside and outside UiT.
After the event: The recording and Kristel’s visualisation of the webinar will be shared with registered participants.
Register, put it in your calendar, and share the invitation with colleagues and friends. Thank you!
