Course content

The course can be taken with most instruments in both classical and popular genres. Work with both solo and ensemble performance competences on a repertoire that demonstrates breadth in genre and style.

Objectives of the course

After completing the course the student will have the following competences:

Knowledge

  • can realise artistic intentions by performing music for their chosen instrument
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing with the music community and the public sphere

Skills

  • ability to work independently on new repertoire
  • good technical and artistic skills on their instrument

General competence

  • good performing skills on their instrument with a repertoire that shows good insight into genre and style.

English and Norwegian

Teaching methods

Instruction and supervision will take place individually and in groups, and it is expected that the student will undertake a significant amount of independent work. The student will have an independent responsibility to organise and take part in different ensembles. The student will also take part in instrument classes, projects, and ensembles organised by the Academy of Music. A plan for this work will be made at the start of each semester. The student must take part in public solo/ensemble concerts and write programme notes. Applications can be made for accompaniment, but the student should seek to arrange group work and practice with other students. The student is required to provide a repertoire list detailing the music studied (90 minutes), which must include both solo and ensemble music.

Midway performance Approved – not approved
Participation in ensembles and projects at the Academy of Music Approved – not approved
Public participation in at least 2 concert performances with a combined duration of at least 20 min. Approved – not approved
Written programme notes Approved – not approved
Submission of a repertoire list consisting of a performance time of 60 min. Approved – not approved
Submission of the programme of music for the exam and written programme notes Approved – not approved

Re-sit examination

In the case of a fail grade, a resit examination is available in the next semester with reworked or new repertoire. The exam programme must be submitted 4 weeks in advance.
