SVF-3945 Master’s Thesis in Contemporary Risk and Crisis Management (CRCM) - 45 ECTS

Type of course

This is a compulsory course in Contemporary Issues in Risk and Crisis Management - master.

May not be taken as a singular course.


Course content

The master thesis is an independent research project. The study can be theoretical and/or empirical. The topic of research shall be within the field of study of the CRCM program. The student shall attain in-depth knowledge within field of study of the master thesis. The students shall be able to select and critically assess the use of theories and methods to address research questions. Through the thesis, the student shall demonstrate the competency to initiate, manage and complete a long-term research project within a specified field of study.

The choice of research topic and project design will be done in collaboration with an appointed supervisor.

  • can apply scientific theories and methods to a master's project.
  • can categorize, discuss, analyze and evaluate the use of sources, literature, theory and methods.
  • can participate in the academic debate and write according to its applicable standards.

General competence:

The student ...

  • can independently plan and conduct a research project with a set timeframe.
  • can assess the methodological and theoretical basis for scientific studies.
  • has in-depth knowledge of the scientific state-of-the art within its field of study

Students can apply to submit in a Scandinavian language.


Teaching methods

Teaching will consist of individual supervision, approximately 50 hours, by an appointed supervisor.

Re-sit examination

Students who do not pass the previous ordinary examination can gain access to a re-sit examination.

Re-submission is offered within 9 weeks in the cases of grade F (fail).
