    CV

Ole Bolås was born in 1968 and grew up on the countryside of Southern Norway. He started playing the piano at the age of 4, and held his debut recital in Oslo when he was 19. 1989-95 he studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo, where his piano professors included Liv Glaser, Jens Harald Bratlie and Lazar Berman. He took his diploma (Master of Arts) degree in 1995 with the highest grade. In 1991 he was finalist in the “Robert Riefling memorial prize” in Oslo, celebrating Norway’s most famous pianist.

His performing career includes concerts in China, Poland, Germany, France, USA and Lithuania, and numerous performances in Oslo, Bergen (several recitals in the concert hall by Grieg’s home) and others in Norway, including solo recitals and chamber music, with some of Norway’s most celebrated performers, like Arve Tellefsen and Leif Ove Andsnes.

In 2003 he performed Grieg’s piano concerto in Shanghai Center Theatre with Shanghai Broadcasting Orchestra, during China’s largest cultural event “The China Shanghai International Arts Festival” to the greatest acclaim by the press and audience alike.

In 2006 Ole Bolaas completed his own piano transcription of Tchaikovsky’s famous “Pathétique”-symphony, a work he has also recorded on CD. It has won the highest praise from great artists like Liv Glaser, Leif Ove Andsnes, Jens Harald Bratlie, Bart van Oort, professor in pianoforte at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, Netherlands, and Alexei Lubimov, professor in piano at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

In May 2010 he performed the Grieg concerto with Torun Symphony Orchestra in Poland during the celebration of Chopin’s 200 years’ birthday.

In March 2011 he performed both a solo recital and accompanying the famous Chinese violinist Zhong Hua Sheng in a concert at the California State University in Los Angeles, USA.

He was employed at the Tromsø music conservatory in Northern Norway in 2008, where his current position is as associate professor in piano. He also performs midnight concerts and cruise concerts in the famous Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø appr. 100 nights every year.

For more than 30 years he has also been a passionate advocate and performer of progressive rock, particularly of the 1970s era Genesis, with a special interest for the harmonic structures and distinctiveness of their works. In June 2019 he visited Hochchüle für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar, lecturing on this topic for students in both the classical and rhythmical departments.
