Job description
I am the scientific leader of the National Research School in Epidemiology, EPINOR 2026–2030. I am also the course leader for the PhD level course HEL-8013 Epidemiology – Deeper Understanding, and I contribute to several other courses that include epidemiology.
I am a member of the Systemsepidemiology research group, and my research interests are within molecular and environmental epidemiology. My work focuses on identifying and studying biomarkers measurable in blood that can improve our understanding of disease mechanisms and how environmental exposures affect the human body. A central component of my research involves omics markers, including genetic variants, gene expression, and DNA methylation, which provide valuable insights into how environmental exposures lead to systemic biological responses and disease development, particularly in cancer.
I am also conducting research on environmental contaminants, with the aim of improving knowledge about exposure patterns, biological effects, and associated health risks.
Through this work, I seek to strengthen understanding at the interface between environment, biology, and disease and to contribute to more precise and informative epidemiological research.
In addition, I have been involved for many years in the Biobank Norway research infrastructure and have contributed to establishing genetic data resources in the Tromsø Study.
