Turid Austin Wæhler
PhD researcher
Job description
Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, Department of Language and Culture
International cooperation with regards to health and emergency preparedness in the Arctic is the focus of my research. My PhD project is looking into how Norway and Russia cooperate about health facilities and emergency preparedness on Svalbard, a sparsely populated archipelago located halfway between the North Pole and the Norwegian mainland. Remoteness to core health services, harsh climatic conditions, and increasing pressure on the existing infrastructure, are vital elements when discussing health and emergency preparedness on Svalbard.
As a former advisor in global health at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, I have also coordinated multiple global health projects together with actors from various institutions in Norway and abroad.
I'm also engaged in the Norwegian Research School of Global Health and in Global Health Norway, and in Norwegian Forum of Global Health Research .
