Set up a website, publish on uit.no and the intranet

For many research groups and projects, it's a good idea to set up a website. Make sure to use illustrative photos and clear texts so that the readers quickly can get an overview of what you're working on, and how she can reach you. The content should always be up to date. Below you will find user manuals to set up a website and writing tips.

I addition, you can publish content on some of our web and intranet pages. What options you have, depends on your publishing rights.

Examples of such websites are

  • short news: News items for your own unit webpage
  • pages for research projects or research groups
  • events on Tavla

You may find your publishing options on the intranet by selecting the plus sign in the right-hand menu.

Do you want to publish something, but lack the rights to do so? Please contact the communication section – digital channels.

Writing for the web

When designing content for websites, it is wise to write relatively short and to the point. It is demanding to read text on a screen. In addition, we do not read websites, we scan them to find out if we have come to the right place, and if we want to spend time on the site.

Here are some writing tips for the web:

  • Make it easy for the reader to understand what he/she can find on the website.
  • Get to the point quickly.
  • Make descriptive and meaningful headlines.
  • Break up the text with line breaks, paragraphs and bullet points.

In short: Make your text easy to skim.

In addition you should use illustrative images, write good captions and alternative texts. Then your chances of ranking higher in Google searches increase – so-called search engine optimization (SEO / Search engine optimization).

Personal web page

All employees at UiT have their so-called personal card on uit.no. This is your personal web page, and it is a good opportunity to market yourself, both internally and externally. The more complete, accessible and relevant your information is, the greater the chance that people will find you.
