 Actors in the HSE activities

HSE is a common task, with different roles.

  • HSE is a managerial responsibility at all levels and is integrated into all management. The manager can delegate HSE tasks to others.
  • Employees and students are responsible for active participation in the work environment work.
  • The safety delegates shall safeguard the interests of the employees in matters relating to the working environment. The safety delegates have a supervisory function and are partners for the management.
  • The occupational health service assists managers and employees in creating healthy and safe working environment conditions, and has a free and independent position on working environment issues.
  • The Working Environment Committee is composed of parties and works for a fully satisfactory working environment at UiT.

Committees

The Working Environment Committee (AMU) at UiT is a jointly constituted, decision-making, coordinating and advisory consultative body that shall work for a fully satisfactory work. More information can be found in guidelines for AMU.

Safety representatives

The safety representatives shall safeguard the interests of the employees in matters relating to the working environment. The safety delegates have a supervisory function and are partners for the management.

The safety representatives at UiT are divided into three levels:

  • Level 1: Rector/Director of Administration - UiT's coordinating chief safety representative (k-HVO)
  • Level 2: Dean/Director - Chief Safety Representative (HVO) in main safety areas
  • Level 3: Head of Department/Head of Section - Safety representative (VO) in safety areas at the workplaces

The safety representative is an important partner for the management in the work to ensure a fully satisfactory working environment. Managers at all levels are responsible for involving the safety representatives in the arenas where the working environment is a topic.

The election of safety representatives is held in the spring in even-numbered years. Safety representatives are elected for two years at a time. The election of safety representatives is described in Guidelines for the election of safety representatives.

Personal data shall be handled in accordance with ihe Guidelines for management of personal data within the safety representative scheme and the Data Protection Legislation. it is referred in this contect to the privacy policy for the safety delegate scheme.

The safety delegate has the following responsibilities:

  • Familiarize themselves with the confidentiality rules and sign the declaration of confidentiality.
  • Process personal data in accordance with the data protection regulations and guidelines, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)  and the Guidelines for the handling of personal data within the safety representative scheme.
  •  Only process personal data that is necessary in the role of safety representative and follow-up of the individual case.

Safety representatives must sign the declaration of confidentiality for safety representatives.
