Energy systems

Energy and the system supplying it is essential for the modern society. Research in this topic focuses on electricity distribution, production, storage and use. Members of this group is also managing energy systems in the ARC centre (Arctic Centre for Sustainable Energy).

Electric transport

Electric transport is an important part of the transition to a sustainable future, where the group has been participating in projects such as GMV Zero and within charging technology. The research focus is now towards charging technology for small and medium size vessels, and how it is interfaced on both vessel side and grid side.

Autonomous platforms

Autonomous platforms is a general term that can include all means of autonomous control of something that moves. The group’s focus is toward satellites, drones and maritime vessels, both individual and coordinated motions. Small autonomous electric vessels for transport of gods is one of the groups focus areas.

Satellite data processing and communication

Data from satellites are extensively used to monitor the earth, but needs calibration to provide results that are more accurate. The research also includes classification of multispectral/hyperspectral satellite images based on ground measurements. The group is involved in Nansen Legacy and CIRFA SFF to measure hyperspectral ocean colour data for calibrating satellite data

Education

Education is the main activity for the university. Educational research within our field of expertise is one of the group’s activities, with emphasis on mathematics, alternative teaching methods and assessment. The activity focuses on first year students in engineering to strenghten the basic mathematic knowledge and reducing drop-out.
