Aquaculture and Environment
Our research has a focus on fish-environment interactions in relation to aquaculture. Research encompasses environmental requirements and aquaculture technologies, incorporating biotechnologies relating to stress and welfare, feed and nutrition, health, reproduction and early life stages. We strive to understand how the biology of farmed fish is affected by biotic and abiotic factors, with the aim of defining rearing environments that will promote good fish performance and welfare.
Group members have research expertise in immunology and fish health, physiology, nutrition and aquaculture technology including RAS; research problems are approached from different perspectives and the finding of solutions may involve studies that range from the molecular level, through cells and tissues to observations on living fish. Most work is carried out under controlled conditions, but studies are also carried out in the field in collaboration with partners from the fish farming industry.
