Systems biology and bioinformatics

New technolgies have led to a data explosion in biology, now providing the challenge to analyse and integrate these data to gain meaningful insights. In close collaboration with experimental groups we develop modelling and bioinformatic approaches that shall help to unravel the complex molecular mechanism of cellular pathways.

The main focus of our current research is the construction of dynamic models of central metabolic pathways and there connection to whole cell metabolism and signal transduction. Beside small- and genome-scale modelling approaches we are using phylogenetic analysis and co-evolution studies to understand the evolution and functional relationships of enzymes within and between pathways. We now combine more and more bioinformatic and biomathematical approaches  to gain new insight into complex biological processes.
