    Research interests

My research interests include cardiovascular epidemiology, preventive cardiology, atrial fibrillation, coronary heart disease, and hypertension, with a focus on sex differences. I have extensive experience working with large population-based longitudinal studies and am especially interested in data analysis and modern statistical methods.

I am the principal investigator in the following research projects:

    • Atrial Fibrillation in the Tromsø Study 1986-2016
    • Acute ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction – Management and Outcomes; REDEFINE-HF registry and Norwegian Myocardial Infarction Registry (NORMI)

In addition, I am a collaborator in the following research projects:

    • TROMBOLOME: Development and application of a comprehensive digital archive of the TROMsø study metaBOLOME
    • GENAF: GENetics in Atrial Fibrillation
    • The vascular disease pathway to cognitive impairment and dementia
    • Population-based Atrial Fibrillation screening in individuals with elevated ProBNP
    • The associations between physical activity, alcohol consumption, cardiorespiratory fitness on risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. The Tromsø study 1994-2021.

    Teaching

I teach research methods, epidemiology, and applied statistics to master's, PhD, and medical students at the Department of Community Medicine. I also have experience teaching cardiovascular epidemiology. I supervise MPH students, master's students in clinical nutrition, research line medical students, and PhD students in their research projects.
