Research interests

Role of the scavenger endothelial cell of the vertebrate kingdom, in particular the mammalian liver sinusoidal endothelial cell, in the clearance of colloids and nano particles from the blood circulation.

Qualifications:
1975: Norwegian Cand. Mag. degree (similar to Bachelor degree), at the University of Oslo
1978: Norwegian Cand. Real. exam (similar to Master degree), at the University of Tromsø
1984: Ph.D., Uppsala University, Sweden

Previous employment:

1978-1979: Research assistant, Institute of Medical Biology, University of Tromsø.
1979-1981: Research scientist in prof. David Aminoff´s group, Department of Biochemistry,        University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA
1981-1984: Predoctoral research position at University of Uppsala, Sweden, employed by the Veterinary School, the Swedish Agricultural Universtity (supervisors: profs. Ulf Lindahl and Torvard C. Laurent), ending December 1984 by defending Ph.D. thesis "Endocytosis of connective tissue macromolecules in liver endothelial cells". The thesis was later (1988) awarded as the best thesis defended at the Swedish Agricultural University during the period 1984 - 1987.
1983-1988: Part time (20%) position as research consultant (eukaryot cell biology), at KabiGen, a subsidiary under KabiVitrum (presently Pharmacia-Upjohn), Stockholm, Sweden.
1985-1988: Associate professor at Dep. Med. and Physiol. Chemistry, Medical Faculty, University of Uppsala.
1988-1990: Senior scientist at Dep. Biochem., University of Tromsø, Norway, paid by a grant from the Norwegian Cancer Association.
1990-1992: Associate professor at Dep. of Exper. Pathol., University of Tromsø, Norway.
1993-Present Full professor at Vascular Biology Research Group, Department of Medical Biology, University of Tromsø.

Visiting professor:

1994-1995: Visiting professor at the Department of Medical Chemistry and Physiology, Biomedical Centre, University of Uppsala. Host: Prof. Kristofer Rubin.
1999-2000: Visiting professor at Dep. Biochem. Mol. Biol., Univ.Oklahoma Health Sci. Center, Oklahoma City.
