autumn 2017 ENG-3193 Literature, Text and Education - 10 ECTS

Type of course

This course is particularly well-suited for students at the lektor-programme, but is open to all master students in English literature.

Course content

This course focuses on profound studies of a number of English texts that relate to education in a variety of ways, for example intellectual significance, social impact and historical importance, as well as in theme, content, form and current interests. The close reading of these texts develops aesthetic sensitivity and hermeneutic capacity within a wider framework of theoretical approaches to literature and text, contextual knowledge and educational concerns. The dilemma of aesthetic autonomy and contextual discourses constitutes a continuous point of debate and reference for the course. Students are required, in cooperation with the course organiser, to select one major text and relevant study material within the research framework of the course. Professional practice, training or internship, as well as syllabus from didactics and pedagogics, can be part of the designed syllabus and research. Syllabi, assignments and professional training provide the basis for a term project that is to be presented and discussed in the oral exam.
