    Research interests

Ingelin is studying the cell biology of the liver, and especially liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, that are very active in blood clearance as they take up and degrade a large array of bloodborne macromolecules, colloids and nanoparticles. These cells are in direct contact with a large volume of blood, as they are lining the small sinusoids of the liver. They are known to be endocytically active scavenger cells, but there is limited knowledge about their role in the development of liver injury. The focus of this PhD project is to reveal how LSEC can contribute to toxic liver injury and how cytotoxicity of LSEC can be studied in vitro to increase the understanding of their role in liver damage caused by various drugs. Ingelin is also involved in the SECVIR project, investigating if LSEC also take up and degrade bloodborne viruses.
