Research
The project "Children of parents with a mental illness (COPMI)" has been an ongoing research and professional development project at the Regional Centre for Child and Youth Mental Health and Child Welfare (RKBU Nord) since 2009.
The overall goal of the project has been to facilitate changes in practice within adult mental health services by implementing new routines. These new routines included a tool for assessing and registering patients with children, as well as the implementation of the Child Talks intervention. Throughout the project, we have had close collaboration with the organization "Adults for Children" and the general psychiatric clinic at the University Hospital of North Norway (UNN).
The project has consisted of various phases:
Professional development and service support for services involving COPMI (2009-present). Research on the implementation of new routines (2009-2021). Evaluation of the Child Talks intervention in collaboration with the Municipality of Tromsø (2023-24). An effectiveness study of the Child Talks intervention in collaboration with "Adults for Children," funded by the DAM Foundation (2024-2027).
The project group participates in both national (Research Network - Southern Norway Hospital Trust (sshf.no)) and international (Parent & Family Mental Health Worldwide (parentfamilymentalhealth.com)) research networks on children of parents with a mental illness and families affected by mental illness (FAPMI).
