New multilingual child-language corpus available through TalkBank

We are pleased to announce that our corpus of narratives produced by Ukrainian children living in Poland is now available through TalkBank.

The corpus includes transcripts from 74 children aged 5–13, collected in Poznań and Rawicz during the 2023–2024 school year. Each child produced two narratives: one in the societal language Polish and one in the first language Ukrainian (with some children using Russian or Surzhyk).

The data offer a valuable resource for research on children’s multilingual development in the context of migration. Most participants arrived in Poland after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and began learning Polish through everyday life and education in Polish schools and kindergartens. The corpus can support research on language acquisition and maintenance, code-switching, contact between Ukrainian and Polish, and the linguistic experiences of Ukrainian children growing up in Poland.

We are grateful to all the children, families, schools, and researchers who contributed to the data collection.
