The Journey Behind Ocean Echoes by Romina Bazrgar
By: Romina Bazrgar Golkhatmi
Ocean Echoes is a podcast inspired by the Ocean Incubator Network Learning Toolkit book, designed to bring ocean literacy, sustainability, and accessibility to a wider audience. Each episode translates the Toolkit's core themes—such as interdisciplinary collaboration, relationality, and care—into engaging conversations that connect listeners to the ocean.
Why Ocean Literacy Matters
The ocean affects all of us—from the air we breathe to the food we eat. Yet, for many, the conversation about ocean sustainability feels distant and inaccessible. My goal with Ocean Echoes was to bridge that gap by bringing the lessons of the Ocean Incubator Network Learning Toolkit to a broader audience.
From Idea to Podcast: A First-Time Journey
This was my first time creating a podcast, and every step—from developing content to recording and editing—was a new learning experience. It was both exciting and challenging to translate the Toolkit’s concepts into audio storytelling.
Gathering Feedback: Your Voice Matters
Although I’ve only recorded a few episodes so far, the experience has been rewarding. To continue improving, I conduct a survey to gather feedback from listeners. I want to know: How can I make future episodes better and more accessible?
Your insights will shape the next phase of the podcast, ensuring it continues to reflect the values of accessibility and inclusivity that inspired its creation.
What Comes Next: Help Us Grow
Working on Ocean Echoes has reinforced my belief that ocean literacy isn’t just about scientific knowledge—it’s about understanding our interconnectedness with the ocean and ensuring everyone has a voice in shaping a sustainable future.
If you haven’t already, I invite you to dive into Ocean Echoes and be part of this ongoing dialogue. You can find the podcast on:
