My PhD thesis investigates the inadequacies of current legal frameworks in addressing the interconnected and complex socio-ecological crisis and advocates for innovative approaches rooted in diverse perspectives to address these challenges. Specifically, my research aims to integrate the ethics of care with the discourse on the rights of nature to develop a comprehensive understanding of humanity's relationship with the natural world. My research contributes to environmental governance by proposing alternative legal paradigms centered around care, stewardship, and Indigenous worldviews that prioritize sustainability, equity, compassion for, and the well-being of both humans and the more-than-humans.

Dana is a Law and Politics student at the University of Glasgow involved in ocean conservation and climate education. She’s a member of IRENA’s Youth Forum and was a youth delegate at COP27 where she presented the first MENA ocean action plan, and COP28 where she hosted the first fully autistic youth delegation, speaking at an official UNFCCC side event panel dedicated to her organization, EcoSpectrum. She’s Egypt’s contact point in the SDG7 constituency group, an Arctic Ice Force Hub leader in Egypt contributing to the legal framework for an arctic moratorium in MENA, and the youngest member of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance Youth Policy Advisory Council of 2022 serving as Secretary and Representative of Egypt. Dana is passionate about members most affected by the lack of urgency in the climate crisis and has thus founded EcoSpectrum, the first organization in the world aiming to elevate the inclusivity of youth on the spectrum of autism in ocean conservation discussions by creating the first fully accessibility and comprehensive ocean literacy curriculum. Simultaneously, Dana is piloting the Asfour Initiative, working with indigenous local Egyptian communities living on the coasts of the Nile, Mediterranean, and Red Sea to elevate their stories and provide an accessible and localized ocean literacy curriculum for illiterate children and youth from the coasts.

Emily is a PhD researcher in the School of Law at University College Cork, Ireland working on children’s rights, climate justice and the right to health. She has an interdisciplinary education and research background, spanning from medical sciences and global health to environmental law. She is passionate about ecological and emotional education, access to and the right to health and a healthy environment, and encouraging others to follow their hearts.

Ana Maria Montaña Monoga

Ana is a Geoscientist from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. During her undergraduate degree, she focused on Seismic and Seismology. She also has a background in Exact sciences as she was part of the Nanomaterials research group of the Physics department. She is pursuing a master's degree in Geophysics and Marine Geology at UiT. Her research project is based on the analysis of 2D and 3D seismic data, to characterize structures related to periods of glaciation, changes in temperature and pressure, and migration of gases, such as methane, on the Arctic seabed. She is interested in education topics, especially in how to teach geoscience in primary school.
