The Centre for Sámi Studies at UiT The Arctic University of Norway was pleased to host a Public Workshop on Indigenous Internationalism in Context on 18-19 October 2018.

This multidisciplinary conference gathered together scholars who research the international Indigenous movement, its history and its connections around the world. This included research on global Indigenous organizations (like the World Council of Indigenous Peoples or the International Indian Treaty Council), regional Indigenous organizations workings across state borders (like the Saami Council or the Coordinadora Andina de Organizaciones Indígenas), individual Indigenous internationalists, international Indigenous conferences, and Indigenous activity at the United Nations.

The conference was be organized as a public workshop, meaning delegates were asked to present new research that was not yet been published, which could use additional insight from their peers. All presenters were expected to circulate their draft papers one month in advance, so that all guests had read each other’s work in advance of the workshop.

Jens Dahl (University of Copenhagen) presented a keynote address.
