Master of Science Marek Vlk will on June 18th at 14.30 publically defence his thesis for the PhD degree in Science.
Title of the thesis:
«Optical Waveguides for Infrared Spectroscopic Detection of Molecular Gases»
Popular scientific abstract:
Current trace gas detection instrumentation is bulky and expensive, which limits the applications. Optical waveguides aim at replacing free-space optics in order to reduce the size by realizing long pathlengths on a photonic chip. To achiece competetive sensitivites, the waveguide device needs to have a low loss to allow long interaction paths, and large light-analyte interaction per unit length. This thesis presents the analysis, fabrication methods, and characterisation of optical waveguides for on-chip gas detection by infrared tuneable diode laser absorption spectroscopy.
The thesis is published and available in Munin.
Leader of the public defence:
The leader of the public defence is Professor Yngve Birkelund, Head of Department of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Science and Technology.
Opposition ex auditorio:
If you have any qiestions for the candidate during the public defence, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. He will announce the questions during the defence.
The trial lecture is held on Friday June 18th at 13.00 in the same auditorium. The title of the trial lecture is: «Optical gas sensing: today and tomorrow»
The defence and trial lecture will be streamed via Mediasite:
UiT follows the national guidelines regarding infection control. A maximum of 20 people are allowed in the auditorium during the defence, as long as everybody keeps a distance of 1 meter at all times.
