Leadership and Multicultural teams @Tromsø World Free Festival

Lecture: Leadership and Multicultural teams

Leadership is a word with many different meanings, depending on who hears it and who uses it. What does it mean actually? To lead? Is there anything to lead at all? To lead where? Who and whom? Does language, use of words, cultural and historical diversity can make a difference in leadership?
We will address these and other questions in a workshop on “Leadership & Multicultural Teams”, November 2nd, under Tromsø Global Umbrella. Tromsø Library is the place to be at 14:00.
We live in a globalized world, where everybody meets someone from another culture. In Tromsø only, we have around 132 nationalities which make 12% of the city’s population. Teams with people belonging to only one nationality and sharing one common language are rare these days.
Gabriela Sirbu is former journalist, has a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Transformation from UiT and a specialization within practical psychology from the Norwegian Gestalt Institute in Oslo. She is also the writer of the book “Speak the Unspoken: Exploring the unwritten rules of North Norway” where she is sharing her insight as an immigrant living, studying and working in Tromsø for the past 20 years.
In this seminar, Gabriela will take us on journey about leadership as a concept and on how do we practice it in our everyday lives. “Leadership” is not a subject taught in schools, except one chooses it at the University level. We all could have used a better understanding of it earlier in life, yet better later than never.
Pen and paper at hand can be a good idea and be also ready to speak with people around you.
See you then!
