Just Knud Qvigstad (1853–1957) was the Rector of Tromsø Teachers’ College and an important researcher in Sami and Kven languages and culture. Among other things, Qvigstad purchased works about the Sami people and other Finno-Ugric people and swapped publications with colleagues in Norway and abroad. He donated the resulting collection of research literature to the Museum of Tromsø (now the University Museum).
