The Qvigstad Room

The Qvigstad Room Norsk flagg

Just Knud Qvigstad (1853–1957) was the Rector of Tromsø Teachers’ College and an important researcher in Sami and Kven languages and culture. He collaborated with researchers across the entire Northern region and purposefully developed a collection of books within his field of research. Among other things, Qvigstad purchased works about the Sami people and other Finno-Ugric people and swapped publications with colleagues in Norway and abroad. He donated the resulting collection of research literature to the Museum of Tromsø (now the University Museum). The Qvigstad collection is located in a dedicated, locked, climate-regulated room at the University Library premises at the Museum of Tromsø. View a list of the materials in the Qvigstad Room in Oria.

Please contact library staff at the museum to arrange access to the Qvigstad Room.
