FORMAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
HIGHER EDUCATION ENTRANCE QUALIFICATION
(both diploma & transcript of record must be uploaded)
Depending on your upper school education, you might need one or more years to be eligible for admission to higher education in Norway, please carefully consult the country list before applying.
BACHELOR'S DEGREE OR EQUIVALENT
1- Final degree diploma from higher education, in the original language.
2- Transcript of grades/academic record from higher education, in the original language.
3- If you have a Diploma Supplement, you can upload it directly with the final diploma. The Diploma Supplement (DS) is an official document accompanying the diploma of higher education. Please contact your institution to see whether you can obtain one.
4- Official translations of final degree diploma and transcript of grades/academic record from higher education.
The International Office at UiT always verifies uploaded bachelor's degree diploma/transcipt with the issuing school/institution. If we are unable to verify your qualifications, you will not be offered admission.
PROOF OF FINANCIAL ABILITY
(This requirement applies only to NON EU/Swiss/Iceland/Norwegian citizens.)
SPECIFIC ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
These requirements vary from a programme to a programme. Please check the admission requirements section in the programme(s) of your choice in the Study Catalogue to see whether the programme of study to which you are applying requires specific academic requirements (Only a combination of two programmes are allowed for international applicants):

VALID ID DOCUMENTS
Please upload one of the followings:
- Valid international passport
- Family passport
- National identity card issued by a EEA or EFTA country
- Norwegian refugee travel document
- Norwegian immigrant’s passport
The uploaded ID document must be made from the page of the document that contains your full name, date of birth and photography.
PROOF OF NAME CHANGE
The information in this paragraph only applies if you have changed your name.
If the original proof of name change was not issued in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish or English you must also upload a copy of a translation into one of those languages.
Valid documents for proof of name change:
- Marriage certificate (Norwegian or foreign) that contains both your old and new name.
- Divorce certificate (Norwegian or foreign) that contains both your old and new name.
- Confirmation of name change issued by the National Population Registry (in Norwegian).

Please consult with your university to see whether such documentation is required for the completion of your degree.

(also known as motivational letter. It should not be more than two pages in length - max. 1000 words)

- INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE REJECTED.
This means that you must upload all the above-lited required documents within the final deadline for international admissions.
- ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS:
You are required to bring along the originals of your academic credentials to Norway for verification after being offered admission. Any fraud will result in immediate cancellation of your right to study in Norway and your return to your home country!
- ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE UPLAODED ONLINE:
You are responsible for uploading all required documentation, as well as ensuring that it is uploaded within the application deadline. As it may take several weeks for institutions and test centres to provide transcripts and/or test scores, please arrange for these documents to be issued as soon as possible.
You are liable for your uploaded documents, i.e. that they represent accurate and unaltered information.
Wrongful or misleading information may lead to dismissal and loss of right to study. Submission of fraudulent documents is illegal, and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
- VERIFICATION OF CREDENTIALS:
Please note that we maintain the right to contact institutions, firms, associations and government agencies for the purpose of explanation and/or verification of uploaded documents.
- RETENTION OF APPLICATION RECORDS:
UiT retains materials that support admission from one year after the first registration to five years after last activity on the student record, depending on the type of document. Please make sure to submit verified copies of your originals instead of submitting irreplaceable material to support your application.
