Master student has made a system that composes jazz

As a part of the creative AI research program at UiT Narvik Shayan Dadman has created a system that composes jazz music.

For his MSc thesis Shayan developed a recursive neural network that was trained on historic music created by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.  He also developed a real-time music chord detector.  Work continues in this field.  If we get the funding we hope to be able to demonstrate live improvisation by the end of next year, hopefully to let this music robot take part in a simple jam session with real musiciations.  Shayan's work has been oberved here and there.

And here is a taste of what the composing machine can do:

Shayan himself is workng now on improving the composer and writes an article based on his work that should be published by the end of the year.
