Job description

I work as an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Child and Adolescent Health Research Group, Pediatric Infection Group. I am responsible for supervising and teaching students at bachelor's, master's and PhD level. The pediatric research group has several projects in the field of infection, and aims to improve diagnostics and treatment of serious infections in children.

    Research interests

My research focus is on infections in newborns, with a particular focus on infections caused by coagulase negative staphylococci, biofilm and antibiotic resistance. Our main aim is to find new treatment methods by identifying virulence mechanisms in Staphylococcus haemolyticus. In 2020 we discovered a new staphylococcal species, Staphylococcus borealis, we are now investigating which infections this hitherto undescribed bacterium causes. In 2023, we started the OPTIMIST project, where we want identify causes of breast inflammation. The study will hopefully result in better prevention and treatment of mastitis, which affects approximately 20% of nursing mothers.
