Serious Games and Political or Humanitarian Crises

Giulia Conti from the University of Parma offers a lecture and workshop on serious games and crises.

This lecture and workshop introduces students to the use of serious games to address complex topics such as humanitarian crises and political issues. By experiencing games like Syrian Journey, Bury Me, My Love, and Memory Reloaded, participants will discuss the potential of these tools to raise awareness and promote empathy.

Learning Goals:

  • Understand how serious games can represent and communicate political and humanitarian issues.
  • Analyze the emotional and cognitive impact of games on players.
  • Assess the effectiveness of games as tools for raising awareness compared to other media forms.
  • Recognize the strengths and limitations of serious games in political and social contexts.

Giulia Conti is a visiting scholar from the University of Parma. Her stay and lectures are coordinated by the ENCODE and CRAFT research groups.
