Sahel on Sahel

Collaborative visual anthropology

Research

The Sahel region is embedded into a series of severe social problems. Our main assumption is that many of these problems stem from communication challenges and a lack of dialogue. Furthermore, we assume that advances in visual collaboration tools can contribute to the creation of intra-cultural and cross-cultural dialogue.

The Sahel on Sahel project is building research and dissemination practices, based on the "regards croisés" methodology, using audiovisual and digital technologies to share perspectives

Our aim is to create applicable knowledge about changing livelihood strategies in the Sahel, connected to the following two research themes:

- Living together, coming apart: mobility, belonging, and uncertainty/hope.

- Communicative barriers and cross-cultural dialogue: the study of why information is not shared and what can be done.
