Organization
The University Library has three departments in addition to the Office of the Library Director.

Department of Public Services
The Department of Public Services is responsible for services aimed at the general public. The department works in particular with services that support teaching, learning, research, and dissemination and is the University Library point of contact for students, employees and the general public. In total, the department has ten libraries in Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø, Alta, and Hammerfest. We also deliver a number of digital services to Arctic University of Norway researchers and students.
The department has the following academic groups:
1. Academic group for communications
Areas of responsibility:
- Communications via the libraries, online and on social media
- Operation of the lending service
- Identification of user needs and behaviours to improve support services and develop the library spaces
- Support servives offered at information desks, via e-mail, chat, Service Portal (TOPdesk), and telephone
- Events and exhibitions
2. Academic group for research and publishing support
Areas of responsibility:
- Research data – management and archiving
- Publishing – Open Access
- Project application support
- Information for new researchers and research fellows
3. Academic group for teaching and learning support
Areas of responsibility:
- Information expertise (please also refer to the iKomp online course)
- Literature searches
- Reference management (please also referto the EndNote online course (available in Norwegian only))
- Prevention of plagiarism
- Guidance and teaching
Department of Collections
The Department of Collections is responsible for purchasing, managing and registering literature, scientific archives, and library systems.
Areas of responsibility:
- Procurement and tendering processes
- Receiving documents and cataloguing
- Older collections
- Digitisation of own collection
- Electronic literature resources
- The Munin scientific archive (master’s theses and doctoral theses, as well as other self-produced material)
- System responsibility and superusers for Alma, Oria, Leganto, Service Portal (TOPdesk), and the University Library Ask the library chat
Result
Result is a department within the University Library with a particular responsibility for assisting the many academic communities at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway with the development of teaching and learning quality.
Areas of responsibility:
- Qualifying employees within the field of university teaching
- Contributing to the development and use of digital learning tools/resources in teaching
- Developing quality in higher education
- Supporting individual employees in the development of their own personal expertise
- Developing projects to improve teaching
