Library Director's staff

Areas of responsibility:

  • Finance and human resources
  • University Library Board Secretariat
  • Case management and investigative tasks
  • University Library archive

Department for Research and Education Support

The Department for Research and Education Support primarily works with services that support research, teaching, and learning. The department's main target groups are students and researchers, but we also collaborate with organizations and institutions outside academia.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Research data – management and archiving
  • Publishing – Open Access
  • Support for project applications
  • Information for new researchers and PhD candidates
  • Information literacy (see also the online course iKomp)
  • Systematic literature search
  • Subject librarians: primary contacts for the various academic departments at UiT
  • Reference management (see also the online course EndNote)
  • Plagiarism prevention (see also the online course Plagiarism)
  • Guidance and teaching on source use, open science, literature searches, etc.

Department for Library Services 

The department is responsible for front-line services aimed at the public and is the University Library’s point of contact for students, employees and other members of the public. A total of 10 campus libraries in Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø, Alta and Hammerfest belong to the department.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Library dissemination, online services and social media
  • Public contact and guidance at the counter, via email, chat, the Service Portal (TOPdesk) and telephone
  • Operation of the lending service, internal loans and interlibrary loans
  • Mapping user needs and behavior to improve user support services and develop the library space
  • Courses and training in the use of the library's resources and services (see also the introductory course for IT and UB services)
  • Courses and training in literature searches
  • Reference management
  • Events and exhibitions

Department of Collections

The Department of Collections is responsible for purchasing, managing and registering literature, scientific archives, and library systems.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Procurement and tendering processes
  • Receiving documents and cataloguing
  • Older collections
  • Digitisation of own collection
  • Electronic literature resources
  • The Munin scientific archive (master’s theses and doctoral theses, as well as other self-produced material)
  • System responsibility and superusers for Alma, Oria, Leganto, Service Portal (TOPdesk), and the University Library Ask the library chat

Result

Result is a department within the University Library with a particular responsibility for assisting the many academic communities at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway with the development of teaching and learning quality.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Qualifying employees within the field of university teaching
  • Contributing to the development and use of digital learning tools/resources in teaching
  • Developing quality in higher education
  • Supporting individual employees in the development of their own personal expertise
  • Developing projects to improve teaching
