The course can only be taken by students in the Master programme in music performance.

Course content

Students will receive a broad introduction to the field with particular weight on the use of music technology in performance and creation.

Basic competences in:

  • Music production and the use of music technology in artistic practice
  • Recording and mixing of audio
  • Theory relevant to the course

Objectives of the course

After completing the course the student will have attained the following competences:

Knowledge:

  • ability to evaluate, realize, and convey their artistic intentions with use of music technology
  • knowledge of relevant theory and methods in the field of music technology

Skills:

  • ability to compose with the help of music technology
  • ability to use music technology in performance contexts
  • ability to make, record and mix music productions

Competences:

  • ability to work independently in a music studio
  • ability to identify relevant ethical dimensions

Language of instruction and examination

English and Norwegian

Teaching methods

Instruction is a combination of weekly classroom teaching and practical studio tasks including recording, mixing, and composing with the help of music technology. There will also be workshops on live sound and concerts where students play using music technology. In addition, individual supervision and instruction will be given in connection with practical tasks and the planning and completion of recordings. Students should have access to their own computer and preferably their own recording software.

In the case of a fail grade, a resit examination is available in the next semester with reworked or new exam recording

Home exam with adjusting oral exam. The oral exam can adjust the grade in the course, up or down within the entire grading scale.
