SAK-3007 Group exhibition practice - 30 ECTS

Type of course

The course is reserved for students in the master’s program and cannot be taken as a single course.

Course content

In the first semester, the students will specialize in their own artistic methods and technics through a group exhibition. In addition, students will deepen contextual understanding through independent work through relevant theoretical and practical tools.

Objectives of the course

After completing the course, the student has the following learning outcomes:

  • A basis knowledge of relevant history, theory and professional ethics

  • Ability to present, document, contextualize and reflect on one’s work
  • Ability to plan and conduct a group exhibition

  • Ability to contextualize and reflect on own artistic work, as well as that of others
  • Ability to apply relevant artistic methods and techniques

The following course requirements must be approved before taking the exam:

  • Participation in a group exhibition and a group crit in connection to the exhibition

  • Attendance and Participation

Assessment: Approved / Not approved

The following requirements apply:

-Minimum 75% attendance in Art History and Theory

-Minimum 75% attendance at artist talks

-Participation in a minimum of two elective courses/workshops per semester

Attendance and participation must be documented and approved before the student is eligible to sit for the examination.

  • Reflective log:

The reflective log shall be a description in both images and text of the student's ongoing participation in studio visits, independent work in the studio, artist talks, seminars, workshops, and group critique throughout the semester. Evaluation of the reflective log is done in dialogue with the student and academic supervisor.

Oral presentation and examination based on presented physical work/project and portfolio.

The presentation will last for 10 minutes. The examination and feedback from the examiners last for 30 minutes. The exam will last for a total of 40 minutes.


Re-sit examination

Students who do not pass the previous ordinary examination can gain access to a re-sit examination.
