🏫 Step 1: Nomination by your home institution
Before you can apply to UiT, your university must nominate you through the Online Nomination Web.
Important: Your institution must have an active exchange agreement with UiT.
Nomination deadlines
- Autumn semester: 15 March to 15 April
- Spring semester: 15 September to 20 October
📢 Special deadlines: traineeships in Clinical Medicine and Healthcare
Separate deadlines and procedures apply to traineeship students in Clinical Medicine and Healthcare programmes such as Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Paramedics, Physiotherapy, and Social Education (Vernepleie).

🏠 Step 2: Apply for student housing
We strongly recommend applying for student housing immediately after you have been nominated.
Applying early increases your chances of securing accommodation before arrival in Norway.
Housing deadlines
- Autumn semester: 10 May
- Spring semester: 10 November
Important for non-EU/EEA students: You must normally apply for housing before the deadline to receive a housing guarantee. The housing guarantee may be required when applying for a residence permit.
📝 Step 3: Complete your application in Application Web (Søknadsweb)
Once you have been nominated, you will receive an email invitation to apply through Application Web (Søknadsweb).
Application deadlines
- Autumn semester: Opens 15 March | Deadline 30 April
- Spring semester: Opens 15 September | Deadline 30 October
🔗 How to apply for exchange studies
Tip: Apply as early as possible and upload all required documents before the deadline.
📄 Step 4: Upload the required documents
After creating your application in Application Web (Søknadsweb), upload all required documents.
Typical required documents include:
- Passport (non-EU/EEA students) or national ID card (EU/EEA students)
- Learning Agreement or Course Form
- Transcript of Records
- Proof of English or Norwegian language proficiency (if required)
- Any additional documents requested by UiT
✅ Step 5: Application control
After you have uploaded all required documents, the Incoming Student Exchange Team will review your application.
If any documents are missing or incomplete, we will contact you by email and ask you to update your application.
Please monitor your email regularly after submitting your application. In most cases, students are given a short deadline to upload missing documents.
Good to know: Your application cannot be forwarded for academic assessment until all required documents have been received.
🎓 Step 6: Academic assessment
Once your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the relevant academic department or school at UiT for assessment.
The assessment may include:
- Review of your academic background and Transcript of Records
- Verification that you meet course prerequisites and admission requirements
- Evaluation of your proposed courses
- Assessment of available course capacity
- Assignment of a supervisor and traineeship placement, where applicable
⏳ Please be patient: Academic assessments begin after the application deadline and may take several weeks.
📩 Step 7: Receive your admission decision
Once your application has been approved, the Incoming Student Exchange Team will issue your admission documents.
You will receive a notification by email, and your documents will be available in Application Web (Søknadsweb).
Your documents may include:
- Letter of Acceptance
- Certificate of Scholarship (for students receiving funding from UiT)
- Signed Learning Agreement (for traineeship students)
Admission results are normally published:
- Late June for autumn semester applicants
- Late November for spring semester applicants
🎉 Congratulations! If you receive a Letter of Acceptance, your exchange placement at UiT has been approved.
✅ Step 8: Accept your offer of admission
After receiving your admission offer, log in to Søknadsweb and respond before the deadline stated in your Letter of Acceptance.
Important: You must actively accept your offer to secure your place at UiT.

The immigration process depends on your citizenship and the length of your stay in Norway.
Make sure you understand:
- Whether you need a residence permit or registration certificate
- Required documentation
- Application deadlines and processing times

Once your admission, housing, and immigration arrangements are in place, you can start preparing for your journey to Norway.
