Alongside the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø, leading member of the TriArc project Else Grete Broderstad hosted a lecture event at UiT focusing on the incorporation of traditional Indigenous knowledge systems into environmental impact assessments for industrial development projects.
This film describes how cooperation between the Swedish Agricultural University, mineral companies and Sami villages in Sweden leads to new knowledge on how activities impact and may avoid impacts on reindeer husbandry.
A seminar on the effects of windpower on reindeer husbandry in Norway and Sweden is organized on the 14th of October at the Fram Centre, Norway. The seminar is open to all.
The Centre for Sami Studies has a Postdoctoral Fellow position vacant. The position is within the auspices of the research project Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Planning and Environmental Decision Making: The Role of Community-Based Impact Assessments. Even though a country has ratified ILO Convention 169 regarding indigenous people’s rights in independent states, that is no guarantee for the businesses of that country being good at taking indigenous peoples’ rights and interests into account in their operations.
Selv om et land har ratifisert ILO-konvensjon 169 om urfolk og stammefolk i selvstendige stater, er det ikke en garanti for at næringslivet i landet er god på å ta hensyn til urfolks rettigheter og interesse i sin operative virksomhet.
De som venter på svar på klagene om Kvænangen kommunes ja til Marine Harvests søknad om å etablere seg utenfor Spildra, må smøre seg med tålmodighet.
