Northern Homes

The project is led by the Department of Technology and Safety at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The reconstruction houses were constructed as part of a government rebuilding effort following the devastation of war, wew built according to a limited number of standardized architectural designs.

The objective of the main project is to identify solutions for integrating renewable energy sources as a part of the renovation of reconstruction houses, considering sustainability from a social, cultural, environmental,technological, and economic perspective. The reconstruction houses were important when Northern Norway was rebuilt after the war. With the use of sustainable solutions and technology, they can also play an important role in the transition to a sustainable society in the years to come.
