Northern Homes at Arctic Frontiers 2024
Last week, representatives from the Northern Homes project group participated in the conference Arctic Frontiers Conference in Tromsø. Arctic Frontiers has become one of the major conferences on arctic issues, and the conference saw leading arctic politicians, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, policy leaders, scientists, engineers, and arctic advocates converge in Tromsø.
The Arctic Frontiers conference brings togehter science and policy, and also includes a number of side events, some of which are open to the public. The theme of this year’s conference was Actions and Reactions, and the sessions and side events covered a broad range of topics including climate change, resilience, the new energy mix in the Arctic, science and art, and how to empower arctic citizens.
Associate Professor Clara Good's poster on the Northern Homes project was well received by numerous delegates keen to learn more about the project. Project group member Professor Gareth Rees, from Scott Polar Research Institute at University of Cambridge, was also present with to discuss the remote sensing aspects of the project. The solar roof panel from project partner Solskifer AS, which was showcased with the poster, generated lots of interest. Northern Homes was also highlighted in the UiT Arctic Legacy of War science session
It was an eventful week with many interesting discussions and new insights.
