Welcome to PYRO - The Postdoctoral and Young Researcher Organization.
PYRO (Postdoctoral and Young Researcher Organization) was established to support the professional development of early career scientists, especially postdocs and recent PhD graduates at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT. This group faces a highly competitive research landscape, with short-term contracts and limited opportunities for stable career progression. To succeed, young researchers need access to structured career planning, individual guidance, and practical knowledge of funding opportunities and pathways to permanent positions.
Many of these insights rely on institutional knowledge that is not formalized or easily accessible. In PYRO we work to bridge this gap by fostering cross-departmental communication within Health Faculty, sharing career-relevant information, and creating opportunities for early career researchers to learn from both peers and senior academics. Our activities aim to equip members with the tools and awareness needed to navigate their career choices strategically and effectively.

Main Objectives
Independent of the path chosen (eg. Academia, industry, education, etc.), success after PhD involves navigating a landscape of short-term contracts and fierce competition for funding and positions. Thus, to make the right decisions and establish a long-term career, young researchers often require support.
PYRO tackles this urgent need for a tailored career plan, individual follow-up of young scientists, and education about securing permanent positions and funding.
PYRO will address these issues by increasing cross-department interaction and expanding early career researchers' knowledge about different career paths and how to work towards their professional goals.
