Relevant, complete and innovative knowledge

Our ambition is to provide relevant, complete and innovative knowledge for the development of the marine sector. We aspire to offer high-level and broadly based research and education.

The general goal of our research is to understand biological, biotechnological, social and economic relations in marine systems. Based on this we produce knowledge on topics as diverse as the quality of seafood, ecosystem-based management, vaccines for fish, and the development of industry and society. Such a multidisciplinary focus is rewarding, and our research environment is characterized by a high level of activity and productive cooperation between researchers.

Our study programs are tailored to suit the needs of the seafood industry and management. We offer one program of professional study, two bachelor’s programs and three master’s programs. Students enrolled at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science are therefore equipped with a solid and coveted competence. Our students value the proximity to researchers, and after the completion of their degrees they soon find relevant employment.

In addition to these core activities, the NCFS aspires to be a committed conveyor of knowledge. Our researchers take active part in forums for debating social affairs; they give lectures and produce books, articles and contributions to newspapers. The industry, media and others interested in our expertise are always welcome to contact us.
