Thomas Bohn's research aims to understand the ecological impact of aquaculture on wild salmonids. A key focus is how salmon lice may affect Atlantic salmon, sea trout and arctic charr. He also has a great interest in modelling, evolution, biodiversity, ecological interactions, invasion biology and risk assessment. He has a history of 15 years of research on the impact of modern biotechnologies, especially of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), on experimental model systems and real food webs. With cooperating partners, he has worked with multiple model systems: from microorganisms to Daphnia magna to insects and mammals, both in the laboratory and the field. A particular focus has been the food quality and ecotoxicity of GM plants (e.g. Bt-maize and Roundup Ready soy) in a feeding model using the water flea Daphnia magna, including in combination with chemical stressors (herbicides).

José Maurício Arruti is a historian and anthropologist, Associate Professor at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and co-founder of the Afro-research nucleus of the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP). He has conducted anthropological research and social projects with indigenous peoples and rural black communities in Brazil and Colombia. His topics of interest are Territory, Knowledge, and Ethnicity. He is currently developing two research projects. One of them is about indigenous mobility to big cities and their access to universities. The other research is about local knowledge and practices, production of law, and access to justice for traditional black communities in Brazil and Colombia. He has published ‘Mocambo – Antropologia e História do Processo de Formação Quilombola [Mocambo – Anthropology and History of the Quilombola Building] (ANPOCS award, 2006) and ‘Panorama Quilombola – Mídia, Educação e Acesso à Justiça’ [Quilombola Perspective – Media, Education and Access to Justice] (2022).

Anna Ziya Geerling is a Dutch multimedia artist and young researcher, who explores the plurality of cultural relationships with the more-than-human world (‘nature’), to address the socio-cultural and economic roots of the ecological crises from a decolonial lens. For her MA Phil. in Indigenous Studies, she writes her thesis on ‘Weaving Socio-Ecological Narratives & Pedagogies: Conservation & Biocultural Diversity in Nagaland’ (Delivery May ’23), exploring spiritually informed storytelling as complementary/counter-narratives to Western science-based environmental education. As a multimedia artist, she seeks to spur people into re-enchantment and re-membrance of their entanglement with ‘the natural world,’ using photography, text/poetry, video, sound, ceramics, installations and performance. She contributed to various political and scientific meetings (State visit of the Dutch and Norwegian Royals as a youth representative of arts & culture, 2021; Barents Regional Council meeting, 2021; Dutch Arctic circle meeting 2021; Arctic Frontiers Conference & Arctic Frontiers Youth forum, Tromsø 2021; ARTIC Climate Change Symposium by the Norwegian Embassy of the Hague, Amsterdam 2022), and activist community events (Amsterdam Climate Week 2022; Klimakunst Festival Tromsø, 2020) with exhibitions, visual work or as presenting panellist, to speak to the role of the arts and Indigenous knowledge to address the interlinkage of social injustices & the ecological crises. Her recent exhibition project ‘Fluid Futures, Tidal Clocks: The Intertidal Zone’ (2021~) addresses the climate crisis through an immersive portrait of water that places the human back into the hydrological cycle and points to the fluidity of borders between water and land, asking questions such as: what can nation-state borders learn from the rivers in which they were drawn?

Jonathon Keats is an artist, writer and experimental philosopher based in the United States and Europe. His conceptually-driven transdisciplinary projects explore all aspects of society, adapting methods from the sciences and the humanities. He is the author of six books on subjects ranging from science and technology to art and design – most recently You Belong to the Universe: Buckminster Fuller and the Future, published by Oxford University Press. He is currently a fellow at the Berggruen Institute, a research associate at the University of Arizona’s Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill, a visiting scholar at San Jose State University’s CADRE Laboratory for New Media, a research fellow at the Highland Institute and the Long Now Foundation, consulting philosopher at Earth Law Center, and an artist-in-residence at Hyundai and the SETI Institute. He co-directs the Intersubjective Ecology Laboratory and the Consortium for Climate-Adapted Cultural Heritage.

Antonio Guerreiro is an Associate Professor at the Department of Anthropology of the University of Campinas (Unicamp). He has been carrying out research, cultural documentation, and outreach projects with the Kalapalo, a karib-speaking people of the Upper Xingu (Southern Amazon, Brazil). His main research interests are politics, kinship, ritual action, verbal arts, and territoriality in the Amazon. His current research focuses on the transformation of fishing practices among the Kalapalo and their effects on social and territorial dynamics.

Dr Meera Baindur is a philosopher with a wide-ranging area of interest in the areas of Indian Philosophy and Environmental Humanities. She is the program head for India studies in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at RV University Bangalore. She is a member of the Globethics Pool of experts and volunteers with a philosophy collective called Barefoot Philosophers that aims at bringing philosophy to the public space. She holds a doctoral degree from the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) Bangalore in the interdisciplinary area of environmental philosophy. She has worked as Professor for over twenty years, teaching philosophy and interdisciplinary humanities. Before her PhD, she also worked as a pedagogue with a study abroad program called Global College (for visiting students from Long Island University, USA) in their study centre in Bangalore. A strong advocate for decoloniality, her research includes themes in Indian Philosophy, Phenomenology, and topics in environmental humanities such as conceptualisation of nature in Indian thought, ecological and environmental ethics, religion and environment, environmental ethics, and sustainability issues.

Catriona Child is currently the Acting Director of the Highland Institute and Project Coordinator for the current Earthkeepers: Canada-IDRC Myanmar Research Fellowship programme. Holding a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University College of North Wales, she is particularly interested in ethnobotany and climate change studies. In addition, she has socio-historical expertise on the Zeme Naga communities in Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland states in Northeast India. This has led her to look at linkages between colonial and postcolonial social histories in the North East and to support efforts among indigenous communities and scholars to recover and preserve vernacular archives. During earlier involvement with The Highland Institute, she was a coordinator for a project on the provision of surgical care for rural patients in North East India for the Global Health Research Group. Catriona is also an experienced editor who regularly works for the Himalaya journal and the Highlander Press.

He also served as Vice President for Doctors For You for 7 years. (2010-2017). Dr. Rajat Jain has been honoured by Ex-President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Azad with Golden Ruby Award for the crucial work done for the benefit of the communities on the ground on behalf of, “Doctors for You”. He was also recognized by BIG FM radio channel as “BIG HERO” for the work done for underprivileged children in Delhi in 2015.

Chantal Medaets is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the School of Education at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), where she coordinates the Anthropology and Education Research Center (Ceape). She holds a Master's Degree in Education (2009) and a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology (2015) both from Paris Descartes University. She has carried out research on indigenous and river dweller childhoods and forms of socialization in the Lower Tapajós region in the Brazilian Amazon, analyzing parenting styles, informal education (out of school transmission and learning practices) and its connections to the school. In her current research, she deals with different aspects of the indigenous presence in Higher Education in Brazil, combining ethnographic fieldwork at Unicamp with the analysis of intercultural educational politics for Higher Education at a national level.

Veronica Monachini de Carvalho is a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Campinas. She has a BA in Social Sciences (2014) and a Master in Social Anthropology (2021) from the same University. Was a Visiting Scholar at the New School of Social Research in 2020. Her research interests are indigenous ethnology, ways of knowledge, childhood and lands studies. Since 2014, she’s been carrying out research, outreach, and filmmaking projects with the Kalapalo people, Karib-speakers from the Upper Xingu (Southern Amazon).

Dr. Piyush Roy is an Indian National Film Award winning critic-columnist, and an international author, curator, filmmaker and professor in film, media and aesthetic studies. Former editor of popular film magazines, Stardust and StarWeek, he has worked at senior reporting positions in The Indian Expressand Hindustan Times, and has been published in The Times of India, The Asian Age, Society, Screen, The New Indian Express and The Hindu, authoring over 1000 media publications and five books. Presently, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, RV University, Bengaluru, his latest book, Appreciating Melodrama: Theory and Practice in Indian Cinema and Television (Bloomsbury 2022) argues for reviewing Indian cinema using Indian aesthetic philosophies, and latest documentary, The Monarch of the Blue Mountain (2022), explores universal appeals of Jagannath consciousness. A recipient of Sir William Darling Memorial Prize, he is an MA in International Journalism (Cardiff University), MSc in Film Studies and PhD in South Asian Studies (University of Edinburgh). A jury member at various international film festivals and advisory board member of the Global University Film Awards (Hong Kong), he’s Founder-Festival Director of Edinburgh Festival of Indian Films & Documentaries (2016-17).

Omar Ribeiro Thomaz (B.A. in Art History, University of Barcelona, 1989; PhD in Social Anthropology, University of São Paulo, 1997). Professor at State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Dr. Thomaz teaches both at the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology and at the Graduate Program in History. His work draws on anthropology of war and conflict and social history of Africa and the Caribbean. He conducted fieldwork and archival research in Mozambique, Uganda and Haiti. Dr. Thomaz was awarded the Humboldt Foundation fellowship for a post-doctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (2007) and his book Ecos do Atlântico Sul: representações sobre o terceiro império português (“Echoes of the South Atlantic: Representations of Portugal’s Third Empire”) received the award for Best Work in Social Sciences by the National Association for Social Sciences in 2004 (ANPOCS).

Joana Cabral de Oliveira is a professor at the State University of Campinas, Department of Anthropology. Formed in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2003. Masters in Anthropology in 2006, PhD in Anthropology in 2012 and a postdoctoral degree from the Institute of Biosciences, all from the University of São Paulo (USP). She held a postdoctoral internship at the University of Oxford (UK). She is a collaborating researcher at the Center for Amerindian Studies (USP), coordinator of the Laboratory for Post-Disciplinary Studies (USP) and member of the Center for Studies and Research in Ethnology (Unicamp). She focuses her research in the area of indigenous ethnology and anthropology of science, traveling through the dialogues between anthropology and biology.

Edward Moon-Little has a broad interest in anthropology, exhibitions, and museums. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge and an MSc from the University of Oxford. He has contributed to exhibitions in Germany, India, and the UK. Recent publications include contributions to The Routledge Companion to Northeast India and Vernacular Politics in Northeast India. Edward has a broad interest in India. It ranges from his Anglo-Indian heritage in Bangalore to research in Central and Northeast India. Along the way, many communities shared their lives with him, for which, he remains deeply grateful. Beyond his academic work, Edward has a keen interest in emerging digital technologies and digital designs.

Rodrigo C. Bulamah is a postdoctoral fellow at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) and an associated researcher at the Center for Migration Studies (CEMI) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He earned his doctoral degree in Social Anthropology from a dual-degree program between École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and UNICAMP. He works on the interface between anthropology and history, focussing on themes such as ruins, colonial legacies, maroon ecologies, and human-animal relations. His main field of research is the Caribbean, and his current research explores the technopolitical and affective life of wood charcoal in Haiti and its connections to regenerative ecological practices. In 2023, he will join the Department of Anthropology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) as an Associate Professor of Anthropological Theory.

Soundarya Iyer is an Assistant Professor at RV University, Bangalore and Associated Researcher at the French Institute of Pondicherry, India. She is interested in interdisciplinary approaches to the study of agrarian change, gender and livelihoods in India. She was the Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellow 2018-19 at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. She is currently Principal Investigator on a collaborative project with Prof. Nitya Rao funded by the Azim Premji University Research Funding Programme – 2019, which aims to understand the sociology of the decline in female labour force participation in rural Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
