GEOSUMAT received the Icelandic innovation award from the president of Iceland

Announcing the remarkable achievement of GEOSUMAT: winner of the Icelandic Innovation Award.

At a ceremony in Bessastadir in January 2024, Heiðar Snær Ásgeirsson and Gonzalo Patricio Eldredge Arenas received the Icelandic Innovation Award from the President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson. Heiðar Snær Ásgeirsson, a master's student in chemical engineering at DTU University of Technology in Denmark, and Gonzalo Patricio Eldredge Arenas, a master's student in geothermal engineering at the University of Iceland, received the award for development of environmentally friendly cementless binder AlSiment. The project was about new technology that can help the construction industry reduce carbon emissions by sequestering CO2. The project demonstrates the feasibility of using AlSiment technology as cement-free binder, a binder that works with the same aggregates used in conventional concrete. This research is co-funded by the GEOSUMAT project. The supervisors of the project were Sunna Ólafsdóttir Wallevik and Dr. Kristján Friðrik Alexandersson managing directors at Gerosion, together with Dr. Jan Prikryl at Gerosion and Dr. Sigrúna Nanna Karlsdóttir, professor at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Iceland.
