Working packages
The core research question of GOODINT is:
What is successful integration of non-Western migrants in contemporary circumstances of cultural pluralism?
This question incorporates three different, yet closely connected, elements:
1. What does successful integration of non-Western migrants in European countries – Hungary, Norway and UK in particular – amount to? (The definitional question)
2. What, conceptually and empirically speaking, are the main obstacles to successful integration? (The realization question)
3. What is the moral significance of achieving it? (The normative question)
Together, these three elements (definitional, realization, and normative) form the theoretical background structure by which the more substantive, subsidiary research questions of GOODINT are approached. Those questions are organized into three working packages (WPs):
WP1: Equality of opportunity
What is the role of equality of opportunity in good integration and how do the different social and political circumstances affect the relevant conceptualizations of the ideal of equality of opportunity?
WP1 leader: Prof. Andreas Føllesdal
WP2: Cultural Integration:
What are the legitimate expectations of social, political, and cultural integration, and how are these constrained by the basic liberal principles of justice?
WP2 leader: Dr. Sarah Fine
WP3: Social Cohesion
What is social cohesion, why is it a good thing, and how do the different notions of equality of opportunity and cultural integration pertain to the realization of such end?
WP3 leader: Associate Prof. Zoltan Miklosi
