Multilingualism in Transitions (MultiTrans)

August 2023: MultiTrans at 31st EECERA Conference, Estoril/Lisbon

Anja M. Pesch participated at the 31st EECERA Conference in Estoril/Lisbon.Together with Martina Norling and Gunhild T. Alstad, we organized a pre-conference event and four symposia for our Special Interest Group Multilingual Childhoods.

The topic of this year’s conference was Children’s Curiosity, Agency and Participation: Challenges for Professional Action and Development. We took this topic as inspiration for our pre-conference event with presentations by Mila Schwartz, Oranim College of Education, Israel, Claudine Kirsch, University of Luxembourg and Sandie Mourão, CETAPS / FCSH, Nova University Lisbon, Portugal. Anja presented an analysis of views on multilingualism in transition plans from ECEC to primary school in one of the self-organized symposia.Participating at the conference was an enriching experience, both because of the presentations on various issues in and perspectives on early childhood multilingualism, conversations and sharing ideas with other researchers within the field. Additionally, I was able to attend a symposium on transition from ECEC to primary school. Listening to the presentations with current research contributed with important insights to my part of the MultiTrans project.
